Bill Wilson said "To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world". To me, what that means, is that our actions may cause ripple effects throughout the world. Showing one person that they are cared about may make all the difference in their world. The 30 Day Thoughtfulness Challenge puts this into action and is a great way to teach little kids thoughtfulness, mindfulness and kindness. Its simple: every day for 30 days mail a kind thought, an inspirational quote or a message of hope. It doesn't need to be elaborate, it just needs to be every day for 30 days.
“To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world.” - Bill Wilson
I've done this 3 different times for different family members going through struggles. Each time, I felt that I had a small part in lightening their load and giving them a small smile each day. The family member who was struggling with depression said that they looking forward to the messages each day. I felt better knowing that these family members knew that someone thought of them, when maybe no body else knew what to say. Now that my son is getting older, I'm going to start incorporating him into the 30 Day Thoughtfulness Challenge.
What items do you need to complete the 30 Day Thoughtfulness Challenge? Although, you can get as creative and elaborate as you would like, all you really need is 30 stamps, 30 envelopes, 30 index cards and markers. On the back of each envelope, number them 1-30, so that receiver knows where they are in the cycle. Then, on each index card you can draw a picture, write an inspirational quote, a message of hope or a personalized message. A difference message for each day. Then, each day you mail the message to the person, so that they receive one a day for 30 days.
Get your little ones involved! Have them draw pictures or color pictures for the person(s) whom are the recipient(s) of your 30 day Thoughtfulness Challenge!
Think outside of the box for the 30 Day Thoughtfulness Challenge. Wounded Warriors, local nursing homes or St. Jude's are all great places to promote thoughtfulness, cheer and kindness. Other ideas, outside of family, might be a lonely neighbor or a friend who needs some kind words.
